Editing/Drawing Software

• Krita : “Krita is a FREE sketching and painting program. It was created with the following types of art in mind: concept art, texture or matte painting, illustrations and comics.”
• FireAlpaca ( free for mac and windows )
• Autodesk Sketchbook Express ( free or pro version available for $29.99 per year)
  I use this one pretty often on my mac just for quick doodles and sketches to get my ideas out because the line quality is excellent. I don’t really use this one for coloring because the free versions color application is not very impressive or intuitive.
• Made With Mischief  ( Free or available for purchase for flat fee of $25 )
  excellent drawing program where all of your drawings are automatically vector and endlessly scalable creating an unlimited workspace( they call it “infinite canvas”). I own this program as well and it is pretty amazing even for what you get for free but it is a graphics heavy program so you’ll need a speedy computer to be able to keep up with it.
• Paintstorm Studio : Mac and Windows, No free version but a free 15-day trial, also available for purchase with a Lifetime License for $19.00)
  I actually bought this program and was watching it when it was still being developed and released for Windows only. It’s a program that lets the artist work digitally but create works that look like they were made with oil paint or watercolors. The blending capability is magnificent and the colors are so smooth and can be extremely textured and chunky if you choose. There aren’t many tutorials out for this so it’s a lot of self-exploration and is pretty complicated and intimidating. But, after you play around with it for awhile and become comfortable, I feel that this tool will become a digital artist favorite.
